“Listen to me Read”
By Joy Andrews
CASI “Listen to me Read” co-ordinator
CASI’s “Listen to Me Read,” intergenerational literacy program, originated in 1991 with 6 volunteers in 4 target schools in Davenport. Today, CASI’s program is in 23 schools in Scott County. In 2008 we were the recipients of an award from the B-State Literacy Council. Our motto is “You can do it.” This applies to both the students and the volunteers.
Anyone interested in joining this rewarding experience may call me at CASI – 386-7477 to enroll in the 2009-2010 school year. Go to the school of your choice for one hour per week and help a kindergartener, 1st grader or 2nd grader with their reading skills.
Researchers have found that tutoring elementary schol students in reading can slow aging.
