Science comes to life at the Putnam!

By Lori Arguello, Director of Marketing
Putnam Museum and IMAX Theatre, Davenport

Calling all budding scientists! Join us and become a Putnam Explorer! We’ll embark on adventures in science as we examine, investigate, create and invent. Prepare to discover more about the fascinating world in which we live. Each month we’ll dabble in a different dimension to bring science to life with hands-on experiments, fun activities and games, and live animals.

Putnam Explorers is a once-a-month science club for kids entering 2nd-6th grades. We’ll meet one Sunday each month from 1:30-3:30 pm, January through April. Kids will be split into two classes by grade levels. The cost is $9 per program or sign up for the season (4 programs) for $30. Putnam members get a discounted rate of $6 per program or $20/season. The registration deadline falls the Friday before the program. Call (563) 324-1054, ext. 242 to register.

SPRING SEASON

January 10: Beach Party featuring Ocean Experience
It’s science on vacation as we explore our new Ocean Experience
discovery area! We’ll imagine warmer days with waves in a bottle, sand art, pirate vision, and . . . the limbo, of course. Its sand, sun, surf and magnifying glasses (pocket protectors optional).

February 14: Unhuggables
Have a heart and fall in love with some of nature’s unhuggable creatures. We’ll explore their icky, ouchy features via multi-sensory activities and games. We’ll take a close look at some live animals. Will we discover that these unhuggables are just misunderstood?

March 7: Eggstravaganza
Join us for tons of fun with this symbol of new life and spring. Egg anatomy, eggs-periments, and eggy creations. It’ll be an eggs-ellent adventure!

April 11: Trashology
You know what trash is . . . or do you? Discover the value of trash
via games, art, and hands-on activities in this REDUCE – REUSE – RECYCLE jam session. A creative mind is all it takes!
