Champagne on the Rocks
By Lora Adams
WQPT
WQPT’s Champagne on the Rocks, a dinner, auction and diamonds event has become a late January tradition. One of the highlights has been the inclusion of a musical salute to Broadway or popular music and this year promises to have a “Great Performances” flavor to it featuring some of the Quad-Cities favorite performers.
Not only is 2013 the 13th annual Champagne on the Rocks event, but also the beginning of WQPT’s 30th year on the air. What began as six hours of programming that first night on November 3, 1983 is now 24/7, not only on WQPT, but on our second channel, MHz Worldview on 24.2. Technology has also changed in those 30 years, but the biggest constant has been the support of our viewers. WQPT is not possible without the people who place a value on public broadcasting and become members of their local public television station.
And one of the ways viewers can support WQPT is by attending our fundraising events. To make reservations to attend Champagne on the Rocks call (309) 764-2400 to add your name to the invitation list. The date is January 25, 2013 at the historic Hotel Blackhawk. Dinner includes a beef entrée, complimentary champagne (with a chance to win a diamond) and 100 auction items with everything from trips to artwork.
To everyone who has supported WQPT for the past 30 years and with your support we’ll see you at our 50th anniversary.
