Protect your Grandchild’s Ears

Though it is common knowledge that hearing loss affects people of all ages, we often unintentionally expose our loved ones – specifically our children and grandchildren – to dangerous levels of noise. While we would think nothing of setting volume limits on the TV, radio or CD player to protect their hearing, noisy toys are often considered little more than an annoyance for their repetitious rhapsodies and constant need of fresh batteries. But, some of those noisy toys can reach an excess of 120 dBs. To put it into perspective, that’s equivalent to the sound level of a jackhammer or ambulance siren!

As the children get older, their toys become their electronic devices. They use headphones or earphones attached to their toys. Now, many smart phones have available apps for testing sound levels, but if you don’t have a smart phone, or if you have purchased a noisy toy, give us a call for an appointment. We’d be happy to help you determine the noise level. If your children or grandchildren are music lovers, or frequently use earphones with the computer, check out our new mp3 earbuds. They create a cleared, safer and more enjoyable sound experience.

We also have something new at Parker Audiology. It is called Walk-In Wednesdays. Every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, Dr. Molly Parker offers walk-in service for quick appointments. This would include: clean and checks of aid; wax removal; quick adjustments; and short answers to questions.
