Agape Love
By Holly Schilling and Mary Huebbe
Ridgecrest Village
February is the month when our thoughts turn to love. There are several Greek words all interpreted as love in the English language. The intimate love between couples comes from the word Eros, a root from which we get the word “erotic.” Philos is a friendship love or bond between equals. Storge is affection, such as the one between parents and a child. Lastly, there is Agape, a spiritual, sacrificial and selfless love which one definition calls a “model for humanity.” This unselfish love is clearly seen in every aspect of Ridgecrest Village, located at 4130 Northwest Boulevard in Davenport Iowa. This attitude of Agape love starts with its executive director and spreads through the staff, volunteers and the residents who live there, which undoubtedly make this senior living community unique.
Ridgecrest Village first opened its doors in 1966, thanks to The Reverend Doctor John Koning and his Agape love for his community. He wanted to secure the future for teachers and clergy, because he didn’t feel there was anything available for them. He took it upon himself to raise money from his parishioners, and even went to Colorado to raise money to help provide for the facility.
Today Ridgecrest has 34 cottages, 119 independent apartments, 60 assisted living and memory care apartments as well as a 101 bed skilled care area. Ridgecrest is continuing the Agape love by treating everyone who moves in with respect and love. They are given many options for their move in, as well as providing wonderful dining services, social, cultural and spiritual activities. Ridgecrest is a family that includes residents, staff, and volunteers. No one has to feel lonely.
Ridgecrest Village hosts many activities, inviting the outside community to experience this for themselves. We also have private tours, which include lunch or dinner. Please give Bob, Mary or Diana a call at (563) 391-3430 and set up a time to come enjoy the world of Ridgecrest. See for yourself what
Agape Love really means.
