2017 has been marked with so many new technologies in the hearing world! Simply stated, hearing technology works more intelligently than ever. Check out our Fall Hearing Event on Tuesday November 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bettendorf Public Library. You can experience and learn firsthand about what is new and have a chance to win prizes.
So what is new in the world of hearing?
3-D Analysis
Hearing Aid microphones and processors (the computer chip inside) can map out your acoustic space. Hearing aids identify the place of speech and the noise in order to enhance the speech. Your sound experience results in greater comfort, better hearing, and improved clarity. By investing in new technology, our audiologists have seen improvement in hearing. Newer technology and better technology definitely affects the outcome.
Rechargeable Batteries are here
Several companies have come out with rechargeable battery options.
Pros:
Great for those who have problems with memory, dexterity and/or vision.
Cons:
Be wary if you travel. Some methods are better than others. Also this technology only applies to over-the-ear hearing aids.
Lost Hearing Aids? See the Finder Feature
Did you lose or misplace your hearing technology? Many devices now incorporate GPS finders that work with a smart phone or iPhone. Using a smart phone (android or i-phone), you can find your hearing aids should anything happen. You can locate your hearing aids via map (“Did I leave my hearing aids at the Doctor’s office?”) or, you can locate them within your home. The smart phone will let you know when you get closer or farther away.
Greater Controllability:
With the pairing of smart phones, you can take even more control of your acoustic surroundings. Many apps can allow you to make changes to your hearing technology. (Note: Availability of this feature depends on the model and company.)
Wireless Accessories:
Whether you are trying to watch TV, or hear better in background noise, wireless technology is available to make hearing what you to hear more easy. Being technology savvy does not apply here as our staff can set up the accessories for you.
The Future:
Looking 5-10 years into the future, there are many possibilities that are being researched now. Hearing aids may be able to detect a specific health condition. For example, if you fall, it could be possible that your devices could call 911. Additionally, hearing aids could have sensors that measure tension such as muscle strain and increased pulse rate. Technology could react by making adjustments to your hearing environment.
