What is a Cooperative?
The Crow Valley Cooperative is a 55+ upscale living community to be built near Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, Iowa. There are over 100 known cooperatives in the country, with 75 of them in Minnesota. Housing cooperatives, for the 55+ age group, have been around since the 1970s.
A cooperative, including the common areas and grounds, is owned by members who live there. Each member owns a share in the entire cooperative. If there are 55 homes, each member will own 1/55 of the entire cooperative.
Members elect a Board of Directors, made up of fellow members. This board will manage operations, help control costs and create policies for the cooperative.
Cooperative members include active, independent people over 55 years of age who appreciate a maintenance-free lifestyle – while still enjoying ownership.
Cooperative members are typically active community members. They get to enjoy the freedom to travel, knowing their home is being looked after.
Cooperative members benefit from living and socializing with other members who are of similar age and interests. New friendships and fun happen every day at the cooperative.
