A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath

Summer Sunrise
Dawn of glorious summer day
Displays infinite splendor as it
Pulls back the night to let in the
Sky. Delicate lavender, rose,
Tinge of amber, platinum, fringe
The vista, soon fading into the
Pale-blue canopy. The sun rises
In diurnal triumph, sovereign
In the sky. Birds trill territorial
Songs of joy to the sun, king of
Light, grows the green for life
To breathe. In stillness, awe, I
Am part of this creation. I
Inhale, exhale the warm summer
Air watching the sun spread its
Golden glory.
Come Home
It’s time to put the porch
Around the problem and
Serve lemonade, very sweet,
Just the way you like it,
Makes your fingers stick
Around the problem
Fenced by our porch, just
The way we think you need
It. Home is where lemonade
Is and the heart, too, not
Necessarily in that order,
But yes, in that order for a
Family fool like you. We
Don’t ask you to apologize
For the hurt, just come home
And drink lemonade on the
Porch with all of us, and we’ll
Resolve this as a family,
Huddled together like families
Should do, and we do, just for
You, come home.
