Dieting – a Chance to Lose Weight and a Chance to Lose Money

Hello to April. We are now entering the second quarter of 2022. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions to diet this year? How is that working for you? If you watch any TV, l am sure you have seen the ads for all of those diets that want to help you. I could not believe how many ads suddenly popped up on the TV to help with weight loss.

There is GOLO. The GOLO diet aims to achieve weight loss by way of insulin resistance. You purchase a bottle of the GOLO magic to take with your meals. The bottle, a one to two month supply costs about $50.00. Then their ad states “Eat the foods you love without depriving yourself of nutrients.”

NOOM claims weight loss and fitness start with your brain. “We are changing how the world thinks about weight loss.” It uses science and personalization to help you loose weight. A subscription to NOOM costs about $59.00 a month.

Some plans that have been around for decades are WW (formerly called Weight Watchers), Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig. I tried to get information about WW. I spent about 2 hours filling out questionnaires and still could not find out about the plan or cost – BUT, I was offered a chance to tryout their new premium plan with my own blue-tooth connected personal advisor for a mere $29.95 extra.

So I opted not to go that route! It was also apparent that I needed a device and would download an app.

Nutrisystem was next on my list. On this plan, you order their food and it is shipped to you, three meals a day and also snacks. The cost is about $260.00 a month.

Okay what about Jenny Craig? Well, this plan also prepares and ships your meals to you. One plan of 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches runs just shy of $13.00 a day plus shipping. That’s under a hundred a week, but you still have to buy groceries for the evening meal and any snacks or extras. To get free shipping, upgrade to 7 each; breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and recharge bars for $22.52 a day.

I don’t think any of these options appeal to me. I am pretty sure I would lose on any of these plans, but I think I would also be losing a lot of money. When it comes to food, I know what I like and some of these meals I would not eat.

Oh, I saved the best weight loss ad for last. The Lap Band! Have you seen that ad? Just a minor surgical procedure where a band is wrapped around your stomach so you can’t eat very much at a time.
I think I will save my money and just try to eat better and exercise more all on my own.
