A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath

I Am Camera
I am camera, I capture time, freeze
The moment, I take reality, conquer
The real, wherever I go, visual
Master of all around, images I store
Safe at home. The world I see all mine,
In vivid dramatic panoramic pixels. I
Roam my eye over the globe, click pics
Of lions, statesmen, rare birds, and
Scenes that move me and you,
Poignant humanity in good times and
Bad. Most the subjects I like to click
Are my family being family, doing all
The things we love, picnics, vacations,
Festive meals, weddings, anniversaries,
Birthdays of my kids, these are my
Favorite things. I am camera.
I Am Gold
I am gold, coveted shiny malleable
Precious metal. I adorn fingers,
Wrists, necks everywhere. People
Love to wear me, and hoard me, too,
In banks, backyards, walls, wherever
Places hide me. Men fall to their
Knees, bearing little wheels of me, to
Stick on lady fingers. Empires soaked
Colonial domains in blood to mainline
Mercantilist greed, and pirates sailed
The high seas to plunder cargoes of me.
I am a photogenic, gleaming glittering
Pricey rarity, much sought after. You
Can do no better than me, my gold
Standard is the measure of all things.
Let it be told, I am gold, sold to the bold.
