In Memoriam: Dick Schillig
It is with a heavy heart that we tell you Richard “Dick” Schillig passed away on September 20, 2024.
He had been a contributor to this publication for the past 20+ years. His expertise was in finance. He wrote an article each month about financial issues, social security updates and the best way to protect your earnings and investments.
He also hosted a radio show on WOC 1420 for the past 15 years.
Dick was also very active in the community. In 1994, he and his wife, Juanita, founded the annual Labor Day “Run With Carl” road race in memory of their teenage son, Carl D. Schillig, who died in a car-pedestrian accident. Dick was race director for 20 years. The proceeds from the race funded programs, grants and scholarships for students of Bettendorf High School and Pleasant Valley High School. The race still continues to benefit students under new sponsorship.
Dick was active in many functions in his church, the Rotary Club of Bettendorf, and numerous other community activities. For about 20 years, he volunteered for the Quick Bix 2 Mile Run as Chairperson for this event.
We will miss you, your infectious smile and your financial wisdom.
