A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath
Poet in Residence for 50+ Lifestyles.
River of Life
On the river of life we all ride,
The currents cannot be denied.
The water courses by us so fast,
We wonder how long we will last.
The river draws deep, it draws low,
It draws every one of us in its tow.
We may feel it is taking us away,
Far from where we want to go today.
Yet the river pulses forward, surges on,
Through the night, it carries us to dawn.
Tombstone Diploma
My diploma will be my tombstone,
For my life of learning on my own,
For each is their own private college,
Our own school for true knowledge.
You can sit in a class till doomsday,
Yet we all learn best in our own way.
We satisfy curiosity by learning,
To keep our inner light burning.
On my tombstone please record,
I sought the truth many ignored.
