Jane’s Place – Discover this Hidden Treasure Just at the end of CASI’s Main Street
By Kathy Malmloff
CASI Director of Senior Services
This year was a busy year at Jane’s Place, one of CASI’s hallmark programs serving residents of the Quad Cities. Yet, Jane’s Place is a mystery to most Quad Citians and is one of the least understood programs we offer. What can I expect for my loved one if they spend their days at Jane’s Place?
First and foremost, Jane’s Place offers: caring and dedicated staff (including an onsite nurse); a safe and secure, cheerful and home-like environment; individual service plans for each client which are monitored daily, and activities galore. Jane’s Place is not a babysitting service. Clients become part of a caring, active community which is an extension of the family. The staff of eight focus on providing the chance to engage with others, have some fun, laugh a little (or a lot) and to socialize as much as they are able and care to. Engaging all the senses throughout the day encourages even the quietest and reserved person to join in. Jane’s Place provides an environment of active living, friendship, and community.
A bit of Jane’s Place history…. In 2006, a bright new 4,000 square foot adult day services facility was dedicated as part of a $4.2 million fundraising effort at CASI. Jane Folwell, a long time Quad Cities resident, heard of the opportunity to impact the future for those who struggled with memory loss. Jane provided the lead contribution in the funding of the Adult Day Services facility which expanded the existing program to accommodate up to 48 adults in a home-like environment. Included in this precious space are a library, living area and dining room with a full kitchen and beautiful outdoor courtyard and pond. Jane wanted to ensure that clients would be able to spend their days together socializing in a community of supportive staff with others who share similar health challenges. The ability to stay in their homes, keeping daily living and health-care costs to a minimum, was the goal. The vision and generosity shared by Jane and others lives on daily at Jane’s Place.
What can you do to support Jane’s Place?
Jane’s Place is truly a gift in our Quad Cities – won’t you help us spread the word? Information brochures are available at CASI and on the website. Do you know anyone who would benefit from Jane’s Place? Refer them to Crystal Hughes at chughes@casiseniors.org, on our Facebook page at Jane’s Place Adult Day Services, or (563) 386-7477 ext. 238.
Do you love birds? How about flowers? So do Jane’s Place clients who enjoy the on-site aviary and two patios complete with lovely flowers and a pond. Your gifts to CASI can be used to support and maintain these engaging spaces.
Jane’s Place staff members have a dream to increase important interactive opportunities for clients by creating a special sensory filled lounge designed specifically to awaken the senses through touch, smell, sound and sight. Gifts to build this dream space can be directed to CASI for the Jane’s Place Sensory Lounge.
