A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath
Poet in Residence for 50+ Lifestyles.
Long Rugged Trek
He trekked the long march across
The rugged land, towering red
Monuments to the ageless fret of
Time. He walked for days, his life
On his back, father, grandfather,
Great, great-great, all the way back,
Bore them over the vast terrain to
The timeless vista, in his trek for the
Wisdom time confers. Along his
Pilgrim path, his genes jettisoned his
Demons. Finally free to let the
Ancestors off his back, he thanked
Them for guiding him to a new life
At the terminus of his pilgrim trek.
Autumn Changes
Autumn is here, change arrives to
Swack us out of warm lassitude.
Trees sigh, green expires, as bright
Leaves feign fire in the leaf-peeping
Tourist time. Susurrus and whisper
Of verdant canopies draw close, as
Leaves take their leave. Playful,
Sparkling rivers and ponds brace
For a colder clime and their frozen
Time. And we enjoy our last
Unfettered days outdoors with our
Harvest festival, giving thanks for
The bounty of our land.
