May Celebrations

May is packed full of days of celebrating. May 1st is May Day, a day to celebrate by sharing flowers, good wishes and dancing around the Maypole. International Harry Potter Day is celebrated on May 2nd. May 4th celebrates Star Wars Day – May the fourth be with you. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5th. Look to the skies on the 6 and 7. Celebrate National Space Day and International Astronomy Day.
May 7th, 2022 is also Kentucky Derby Day. Sunday May 8th is Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day originated in 1907. On May 11, celebrate National Twilight Zone Day. May 14 is the day to Dance Like a Chicken. Peace Officers Memorial Day is the 15th. Celebrate May 16 with a Mimosa or May 17 with a Cherry Cobbler and on May 19 have a piece of Devil’s Food Cake. On May 21 make sure that you Talk Like a Yoda. May 21 is also National American Red Cross Founder’s Day. Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881. May 26 is Paper Airplane Day. May 27 is National Road trip Day, but don’t forget your sunscreen as this day is also Sunscreen Day.
May 29 is Indy 500 Race Day. Thirty-three drivers, 200 laps, 500 miles and a bottle of cold milk: these are all components of the Indy 500.
May 30, 2022 is Memorial Day, a day for remembering and mourning the U. S. military personnel who have dies while serving in the United States armed forces. This day is now always the last Monday in May. It was formerly observed on the 30th from 1868 to 1970.
