A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath
Poet in Residence for 50+ Lifestyles.
My Coffee Bean Prayer
I pray, coffee bean of the morning,
At this early hour, before the sun
Covers my house with glory, juice
Me to the gills. Inject my throat
With your copious caffeine, and
Charge my battery for the gauntlet
Before me. It’s one of those days,
So it seems, when even a blood
Transfusion won’t do. But you,
Guardian bean, can help me clear
The haze of my megrims and get
Me going when my body says no.
Great Walls of Life
We build our lives with birth
Blocks, each a choice, a chance
In time. We fit each block, each
Birth into a Great Wall of Life
We build, build from our birth
Of earth, earth blocks our kids
Emulate in bright blocks, blocks
Rise alive, high, higher, births of
Birth rise on natal soil. We rise
On the wall, we fall, we rise wall
After wall, we rise and fall. We
Walk these walls, ever rising, we
Walk on this earth of our birth
On these Great Walls of Life.
