Ask the Audiologist

I scheduled a hearing test with an audiologist. What will my appointment be like?
Going to a new doctor’s office for an appointment can be nerve-wracking. Luckily, at Audiology Consultants, it is our goal to make having your hearing tested as easy and stress-free as possible.
When you schedule an appointment for a hearing test with one of our Medical Receptionists, you should expect a packet in the mail that includes a case history form that we ask for you to fill out prior to your appointment so that the audiologists can have a better understanding of the difficulties or concerns you have regarding your ears or your overall hearing.
On the day of your appointment, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to complete the check in process, so we have time to verify we have all the information we need for the appointment.
One of our audiologists will bring you back into the office, and you will take a seat in one of our sound-treated hearing booths. The audiologist will ask some clarifying questions to better understand you and your hearing difficulties.
The hearing test takes approximately 25-30 minutes. You will complete a series of different tests; some with quiet beeps, others with words and sentences. Other diagnostic tests may be performed if needed. Results of those tests are obtained and explained to you at the conclusion of the appointment. The audiologist will provide recommendations, whether that be for routine hearing tests, trialing amplification, or other medical recommendations.
Establishing a baseline for hearing is important for the monitoring of hearing over the years. A baseline is designed to provide a reference point for all future tests. The audiologist will compare all future tests to the baseline test and following tests.
If you have any current concerns regarding your ears or overall hearing, or if you would like to establish a hearing baseline, give one of our 4 offices a call, and we can get you scheduled for your hearing evaluation!
