A Pause for Poetry
By Gary Heath
Poet in Residence for 50+ Lifestyles.
Hours of Flowers
Birth is our entrée into the finite,
And our portal too to the infinite.
Our lives are like evanescent flowers,
That germinate, sprout, grow a few hours.
We trope existentially to the light,
To grow and thrive into the night.
Day and night, month and year, fill our days,
As our long lives accumulate birthdays.
Throughout our travails we seek meaning,
We grow eye-catching flowers of redeeming.
Ego Parade
Ego flourishes, steps high in parade,
Brass bands of hubris march in cavalcade.
Along our streets prideful ego resounds,
Till curbs no longer contain ego in bounds.
The drumline thunders the self-booming,
As crowds along indulge in self-assuming.
The truth is a parade is an egotistical act,
We cannot ignore that stark psychiatric fact.
All parades soon reach their ephemeral end,
To ego, such a simple basic message to send!
