Celebrate Mom in May

PUBLISHER’S CORNER – Celebrate Mom in May

May is one of my favorite months. I’m awaiting the May flowers that are supposed to arrive courtesy of all the April showers. I’m also happy to honor two very special women.         My mom turns 82 this month. As I write this, we are planning a family trip to Branson to celebrate with her. My sister and her children are bringing mom up from Oklahoma, and we’ll drive down to join them. Mom has devoted her entire life to loving and supporting her children, grandchildren and now her great-grandchild. My mom taught me the meaning of unconditional love.

I am also blessed with an incredible wife, who is also a wonderful mother to our three children. I look forward to celebrating Mother’s Day with her. While my mom did not have three children close in age to shuttle to and from various activities, she did work extra hard to make sure we had everything we needed. My wife amazes me. Our children are very active, and if it were up to me, they’d be late or non-existant at many of their activities. Karen is the keeper of the master schedule. I can’t be trusted with it.  Recently, Karen was called in to work at the hospital (she’s a nurse) one evening. She seriously had to leave a note for me, telling me in great detail,  which child had to be dropped off where, and what time each of the Mickle kids would need a ride home.  I was on the road for almost three hours straight taking them to and from their activities!

I’m not sure how we will celebrate Mother’s Day, but I hope to come up with something special. She’s the glue that holds our family together. I hope you have the opportunity to spend sometime with that special mom, grandma or wife this Mother’s Day.

Enjoy the warmer weather and keep thinking “spring” and maybe, just maybe, the warmer weather will come here to stay for awhile.
