What is Assisted Living?
By Courtyard Estates of Walcott
Courtyard Estates of Walcott celebrated its 2nd Anniversary this past August and is still occasionally referred to as a nursing home.
One way that Assisted Living differs from Nursing Homes is that assisted living communities are to assist active adults who are able to care for themselves except for a few daily activities such as bathing or dressing. An active adult who needs medical care and/or needs the help of more than one person to accomplish their daily needs is a candidate for a nursing home. Another way they differ is that assisted living allows residents independent choice; assisted living provides choices regarding services and amenities. Residents of an assisted living community work together with the health care staff to make decisions to ensure their optimum quality of life. Residents of a nursing or skilled care facility are cared for by that facility and decisions regarding their care or basic needs are determined by the facility. An assisted living facility community is NOT an alternative to a nursing home but a bridge between independent living and the need for a skilled care facility. So often when people say “I’m not ready yet” they mean, “I’m not ready for a nursing home yet.”
An assisted living community feels like home. At Courtyard Estates of Walcott you can choose your private apartment and furnish it with all your personal comforts and treasures. You can enjoy the quiet scenery of the private courtyard or choose an apartment where you can watch the world go by. At Courtyard Estates of Walcott there is plenty of space in the community living room for visiting with friends by the fire, have your card club over to play in the parlor, gather the family together for a holiday potluck meal in the dining room or grill out in the courtyard. Feel at home at Courtyard Estates of Walcott.
Please join us for a Lunch & Learn Thursday, November 12th at Noon. A box lunch will be provided as well as information about assisted living. If you have questions about our services and how they can benefit you and your loved one please call (563) 284-4211.
