Robotic Laparoscopic Surgery

Genesis Medical Center Davenport (GMC) and the Davenport Surgical Group (DSG) are focusing their efforts to enhance the GMC Multidisciplinary Robotic Surgery Program. For the past nine years, the DSG surgeons have steadily increased the number and variety of general surgical robotic laparoscopic operations performed in the Quad Cities. This includes operations for colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, all types of
hernias, gallstones, as well as diseases of the spleen and adrenal glands. No other hospital or group of surgeons in the Quad Cities/ Eastern Iowa can offer this range of general
surgical robotic procedures.

Robotic laparoscopic surgery has distinct advantages over operations done through long abdominal incisions (open procedures) and conventional laparoscopic operations. The advance technologic features of Intuitive’s da Vinci Robotic Systems such as 3D high definition vision, enhanced ergonomics, and Endowrist instrumentation allow surgeons to perform the world’s most advanced minimally invasive procedures in our community. Robotic surgical procedures lead to smaller incisions, less incisional pain, shorter hospitalizations, quicker convalescence, and earlier returns to normal activity level.

In January 2017, GMC purchased the newest, fourth generation robotic system: the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. This has doubled our ability to schedule robotic procedures promptly which means our patients get their diseases treated earlier and start their recovery sooner. This leads to less use of sick days and vacation days.
